Indonesian Medical Oncologists Launch First Cancer Website

A major step towards cancer-raising awareness and better cancer management

Jakarta, April 13 , 2005 – Indonesian medical oncologists announced today the launch of the first most comprehensive cancer website in Indonesia – www.hompedin.org. Hompedin is the Indonesian Association of Haematology and Medical Oncology chaired by Prof. Dr. A. Harriyanto, SpPD KHOM. The website, which is fully supported by Roche Indonesia, contains a wealth of information on aspects of cancer that are relevant to patients and their carers.

“We are privileged to launch this website, which represents a major milestone for Hompedin, in its efforts to fight the long-time battle against cancer problems, especially in Indonesia,” said Prof. Arry of Hompedin. “It is also part of Hompedin’s commitment to continuously progress and provide integrated health support to cancer patients in Indonesia,” he added.

The Hompedin website has dedicated sections for medical professionals, patients and general public with tailored information appropriate for each section. Public and patients can also e-mail their concerns or questions to the Q&A column in the public section while medical professionals will be able to check the upcoming calendar of domestic and international events as well as international clinical journals.

“This website offers a comprehensive online information resource not only for professionals in Indonesia but also outside the country. It is a window that allows us to better see and discuss with each other. Singaporean oncologists look forward to a mutually beneficial professional relationship with our colleagues and the website initiative is a breakthrough in this direction,” commented Prof. Tan Yew Oo of Singapore.

About Medical Oncology and BAKORNAS HOMPEDIN
Medical oncology is a science area for learning, researching and developing the use of drugs (such as chemotherapy, hormone, pain killer, anti-infectious agents, etc.) in cancerous medication.
